I am an independent legal consultant who divides his time between practicing law here in Europe and teaching law and legal drafting in universities (Bocconi, ESADE, Navarra, BPP, et al.), corporations, business schools, lawyer / notary professional associations and law firms. I am currently based in Milan, where I originally practiced law with one of the world’s largest law firms, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. To date, I have had the opportunity to teach in thirteen countries on four continents (Europe, the US, Africa & Asia), and in four languages. Most of my courses cover comparative US-EU corporate and securities law issues, as well as other comparative law topics (including contracts law/contracts drafting and occasionally other areas like anti-trust law). I have especially focused on issues of corporate governance, transparency and global efforts to combat corporate corruption. I speak fluent Italian and Spanish, as well as high level French and Portuguese.
My client work focuses mainly on the provision of legal, commercial or linguistic assistance on an “as needed” basis to businesses and legal/professional services firms, where the involvement of a mother-tongue English-speaking professional adds real value to the project (such as drafting & negotiating contracts, preparation of prospectuses, joint venture or business plans, and other key documentation, high-level translations, etc.). I often act as a professional bridge figure: based on transaction requirements, countries and legal issues involved, I locate the most appropriate local, specialized legal and professional assistance and remain involved on an ongoing basis as the primary interface between clients and local advisers.
